Ayesha Curry Launches Food Startup, Gather

A growing number of celebrities are entering the food business and Steph isn’t the only “Chef” in the Curry family!  Ayesha Curry, wife of NBA champion Stephen Curry, is the latest to join the trend. On Wednesday, Curry announced on Twitter the launch of Gather, a meal-kit delivery service that will ship fresh ingredients and her favorite recipes to your doorstep each week.

A Taste of Greatness

According to her Instagram, the meals are “based around my favorite recipes and easy meals I prepare for my family including wonderful choices of home prepared baby food, to your doorstep each week!” Even though we find it hard to believe she prepares all the family’s food, we like the idea of eating like the MVP.

This isn’t her first step into the culinary world. Curry recently teamed up with celebrity chef Michael Mina to open a pop-up restaurant in San Francisco. She also has a cookbook and a YouTube channel with cooking demos.

Join the Club

Ayesha will be up against many celebrities and food entrepreneurs who think their name alone will keep us from questioning if they can actually cook. Last year, Beyoncé, announced her own vegan delivery startup called 22 Days Nutrition. Wasn’t she only vegan for like a month? Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar recently co-founded Foodstirs, an e-commerce startup that makes baking kits. #BuffytheCakeBaker

While these startups are built to make cooking at home more affordable and easy, a recent study from the NPD Group finds that the average meal kit ($10) is more than double the price of shopping for oneself. That could push more customers away over time.

The startup hasn’t launched yet, but you can sign up for its waiting list here. It is still in the early stages so it isn’t clear if it will serve customers nationwide or just in San Francisco to begin.
