Instagram Rumors: Stop Motion Camera, Linking Stories, and Donations!

Another day, another set of Instagram rumors. It’s not super surprising, given that the best way to keep people interested in your product is to add new features for your users. But it’s always fun to see what’s coming down the pipeline – and it helps us plan for the future. Here we’re highlighting the most recent set of potential new features coming to instagram, all found by Jane Manchun Wong

Stop! In the Name of Stories!

Instagram is attempting to take some of the hassle out of making Stop Motion content by adding in a camera that can make them for you! No more fighting with your cameras and placement and retaking them trying to get them line up…

Stop Motion used to be in the app once before (around 2 years ago), but it looks like Instagram is revamping the format some by adding those “ghost layers” for users to properly line up each image. Also, Instagram is adding a standalone camera icon for the Stop Motion camera, which will make it easier to find in the camera app. I am personally super excited to see all the cool things people do with this!

Linking Up

Another feature that may be added to Instagram is the ability to copy a swipe up link directly from stories themselves. No more having to swipe up and copying the link there!

While it’s a small change, it’s something that will make the user experience much nicer in the long run. There’s also a good chance that Instagram will also be providing stats into how many people are swiping up vs copying the link themselves, which will give us better insights into how your followers prefer to use the app. It will be interesting, if this comes out as a feature on the main app, to see how widely it will be used. Or maybe people are perfectly happy using the web browser in the app.

For The Greater Good

One of the final new additions to Instagram’s features is the addition of a donate button on profile for businesses and creator profiles. Perhaps it’s meant to accompany or replace the rumored donation sticker we saw a few months ago?

I imagine is this Facebook (the company) attempting to implement their fundraiser feature from Facebook (the social platform). There, fundraisers allow you ask you friends to donate to a cause you select, with all of the money donated directly to the organization your fundraising for. Either way, being able to establish a fundraising campaign directly from your profile would not only make it easier for creators to start one, it would make it easier for your followers to get involved. All in all, a feature that makes doing good easy is something I think we can all get on board with!

As with all unreleased tech, none of these updates are set in stone. They may be released or they may not, or even modified and released in a different format. But these teasers help us figure out what instagram is thinking about and what they’re wanting to implement next.
