Celebrities Are Athletic Too! Superstars and Athletic Wear

In recent years we have seen many major companies partner with celebrities to promote their brand content. One brand has utilized this marketing technique to ensure successful product promotion and an increase in sales. That brand is Athletic Wear.

So lets talk about how popular Athletic Wear Companies are targeting Big Name Celebrities.

There’s nothing like David Beckham’s abs glaring down at you from a billboard to make you feel the need to go to the gym, immediately. And those Adidas shorts he’s wearing are sure to help you lift a couple extra sets and snag a sexy, English pop-star wife for yourself. Or, at least that is the message Adidas is sending, and consumers are subconsciously soaking it up.
Celebrity endorsements are nothing new. It is commonly known that the familiarity of celebrities brings increased attention to a brand and promotes credibility by associating the brand with aspects of the celebrity’s lifestyle or views. Celebrities and companies, alike, are raking in the benefits of pairing up, making endorsements an increasingly popular strategy for companies in every market. In the race for top ad space, athletic companies are coming up fast, filling consumers with images of A-list celebrities and their athletic wear partners.

Yoga Pants Aren’t Just For Class

Recently, there has been a spike in athletic wear sales as gym clothes have merged into everyday apparel with soccer moms wearing their yoga pants to Target and lunch with the girls after class.  This new outlook on athletic wear, dubbed “Athleisure,” has opened doors for companies to utilize the fame and following of not only athletes, but mainstream celebrities, as well. To take advantage of this increased consumer interest, companies like Puma, Adidas and Under Amour are using the power of celebrity to make their brand stand out.  Puma recently announced mega pop-star, Rihanna, as their Creative Director, drawing on the singer’s edgy style, immaculate physique and immense fan following. Adidas is also dipping into the music industry to redefine their brand, signing deals with Pharrell Williams, Selena Gomez, Rita Ora and Kanye West.
Celebrities have also taken athletic endorsements into their own hands by creating athletic apparel lines of their own. Carrie Underwood has released a stylish collection, Calia, with Dick’s Sporting Goods, while Jillian Michaels has paired with K-Mart to release her line, Impact. Consumers will also see Kate Hudson donning magazine pages, promoting her recently launched athletic apparel brand, Fabletics.

The Celeb Endoresement

With celebrities lending their name to a variety of products, from perfumes to fast food, it is no surprise that they are at the forefront of the ever-growing athletic apparel industry.   For the companies involved, the celebrity endorsement marketing strategy can only be described as a slam-dunk.
