Why Social Media Is Important, Even If It Isn’t Driving Traffic

Social media has brought on a new wave of marketing and consumer relations for businesses around the globe. With the ability to connect with potential customers and grow your brand literally at your fingertips, the effects of social media can be great. Though online engagement doesn’t always result in a major increase in site traffic, its other benefits outweigh those statistics and ensure that having an online presence will positively affect your business.

Social media is no flash-in-the-pan fad. It’s made itself at home with the millennial generation and plans to stick around. Nowadays, consumers can interact with businesses anywhere, anytime, right from the palm of their hand. Social Media Examiner revealed that 97% of marketers are participating in social media, at present. With a percentage that high, you can assume that your competitors are using social media, and you definitely should be, too.

By connecting your products or services to major influencers online, such as celebrities in your industry or other well-known brands, you are introduced to their audience of followers, which can quickly and greatly increase your brand reach.

Hubspot.com recently stated that 95% of marketers who designated just 6 hours per week towards social media efforts found increased exposure for their businesses. In addition, 84% of those marketers saw increased traffic, as well.

So while you may not see a drastic increase in site traffic, a consistent presence on social media can result in at least some additional traffic, as well as make your brand more recognizable, increase customer satisfaction and allow for a larger audience to become aware of your business. For these reasons, it is apparent that social media is necessary in today’s marketing.
