How to Make the Most Out of Instagram

By now, we have all mastered the basics of how to operate a killer Instagram feed. Whether it be your own personal account, an account for your business, or anything in between, there are always ways to improve your posts to maximize views and follower growth. This is especially true for food and beverage accounts, who have increased potential to go viral from just one eye-catching post (have you seen the crazy circulation of “Insider” videos?). To help you make the most out of your account’s Instagram feed, we have some tips for you to try!

Develop an Aesthetic Theme

Ensuring that your brand’s image is consistent throughout your feed is key to boosting followers. To develop your aesthetic, it is important to decide what makes your brand unique and what kind of message you want to send to viewers. In short, the most important part of developing your theme is that you have a common through-line between all posts. This through-line can range from photo filters or color schemes to the ways you incorporate different photo subjects on your feed. To inspire your aesthetic theme, here are some pages we are currently obsessing over:

@chefscutjerky

Daily Harvest: Talk about aesthetic!!! Though this superfood brand features a variety of colors and subjects, the clean all-white backgrounds of all their photos looks ah-mazing. We love their simplistic approach to photos that puts all the emphasis on their delicious, natural, and colorful ingredients.

Heavenly Organics: We absolutely love the cohesive, bright color palette of this page and their mixture of cute quotes, recipe ideas and merchandise.

Rip Van Wafels: For a stroopwafel company, their feed sure does ignite wanderlust! The combination of coffee, wafels, and Amsterdam will have you lusting for your afternoon break to begin vacation planning. The very DNA of their brand is apparent in their feed.

Chef’s Cut Real Jerky: This page nails an outdoorsy, manly theme that showcases their product, as well as, delicious food and action shots. The similarity in photo filters and color scheme make this page extremely visually appealing!

 Quality is Key

Nothing screams “unprofessional” more than a photo quickly snapped on an iPhone and uploaded without editing. You take pride in your brand and all that it has to offer, the photos you post should reflect this. Invest in a good (enough) camera, spend an extra minute or two considering lighting and angles when snapping the photo, and touch up the photo with some natural edits (a little goes a long way) before posting! Having great quality photos will shed a professional light on your business, making it an essential step to optimize your brand’s Instagram.

For inspiration, check out Super Food Runner. Looking at this page full of delicious meals makes our mouth water! Not only are the foods captured healthy and delicious, these high-quality photos are staged to perfection, featuring plenty of cohesive colors (notice the repetition of greens and earth tones throughout their page) and interesting angles that really catch our eye.

The Customer is Always Right

When it comes to social media, it is important to give your followers what they are looking for while still staying true to your brand’s identity. Do some research to see what other accounts your followers are liking and which posts of your own are drawing the most attention to really hone in on what people are excited about! The more aware you are of what interests your followers (and potential followers!) the easier it will be for you to adjust your content to meet their needs and keep them coming back and liking your posts.
